It is part of the Windsor census metropolitan area, and is a part of the Windsor-Essex County region along with the towns of Amherstburg, Essex, Kingsville, LaSalle, and the municipalities of Lakeshore and Leamington. Tecumseh was originally a Franco-Ontarian settlement.
