Merzouga is a village in southeastern Morocco. The village is near the Erg Chebbi dunes, among the tallest in the Sahara. It is about 35 kilometres (22 mi) southeast of Rissani, about 55 kilometres (34 mi) from Erfoud and about 50 kilometres (31 mi) from the Algerian border. Some of the other villages near the dunes are Hassilabied, Tanamoust, Takoujt, Khamlia, and Tisserdmine. Rissani is the closest city of significant size, at a distance of 42 kilometres (26 mi).
